• Discussion of the principles of surgical oncology, including
  - Diagnostic techniques
  - Clinical staging
  - Perioperative considerations
  - Surgical technique
  - Postoperative management
• The principal focus of this discussion will be on the surgical approaches for tumor resection with case-based examples of when it is appropriate to be conservative and when more aggressive surgical resections are indicated.

Specialist Small Animal Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist

Dr. Julius Liptak is a specialist small animal surgeon and surgical oncologist at VCA Canada - Alta Vista Animal Hospital in Ottawa, Canada. He is a board-certified specialist in small animal surgery in Australia, North America, and Europe; an ACVS Founding Fellow in both Surgical Oncology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; and an RCVS Specialist in Surgical Oncology. He has published over 100 papers and book chapters on surgical oncology related topics in peer-reviewed veterinary and human journals, and veterinary surgery and oncology textbooks; and presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences. Dr. Liptak was founding President of the Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology and was awarded the Stephen J. Withrow Award for Advancing the Art and Science of Surgical Oncology in 2010. Dr. Liptak is a co-editor of the 6th edition of Withrow and MacEwen's Small Animal Clinical Oncology and he is currently writing the 1st edition of A Color Atlas of Surgical Oncology of Dogs and Cats.
